Hi Carrie,

Basically, everything is in the First Grade Syllabus that you need - those who want more background to working with language arts and also more first grade ideas can get the Living Language book. But it is not necessary - not, for instance, like the form drawing book which one definitely needs for first grade.

Each year's curriculum will include a guide to language arts - the guide will give more in depth information about working with the LA main lessons and pull together a coherent progression of lessons - plus help people whose children are in a very different place. There will be plenty of theoretical discussion - plenty of lesson plans - plenty of teaching information.

Much will be taken from the existing LA book - but because of the way I am, I hate to duplicate things - so there will certainly be new material and there will also be some things in the LA book which do not appear elsewhere.

Bottom line - if one gets each year's curriculum there is no need to the LA book. If one buys parts here and there - I strongly recommend it. But... especially if one has a larger interest in LA and how it is approached in public schools and how I differ - and where I differ somewhat from Waldorf as it usually appears in schools - then the LA book will be of interest.
