So.... I have chosen an article for us all to read and study together - those who wish to, that is. It's called "The Art of Thinking: Helping Students Develop their Faculties of Thinking and Observation" by Craig Holdrege of the Nature Institute.
The Nature Institute is a wonderful place in upstate New York which promotes Goethean/anthroposophical study and research of nature. I am toying with the idea of doing a week long course there next summer on Plant Observation. I know Craig from years ago when we briefly lived in Harlemville - he was at that time the science teacher at the Hawthorne Valley (Waldorf) HIgh School.
This is a wonderful article (and not too long!) about how to help young people think - to help them break out of any boxes they are in, to get them over
simplistic causal thinking and to understand the interaction of multiple factors in science - and, of course, in life. Even though it is written about high school students and even though the way one approaches science with them is very different from science teaching even in middle school, I strongly recommend that any of you with a deep interest in the Waldorf approach to things join us - if only to read!

I'd like to start this study next Monday, 20th November. I'll start us off in the Waldorf Philosophy forum. If there are any questions about this study before that, you can post those questions here. It'd be nice to hear from those of you who wish to join in so I know I won't be talking to myself!

Admin note: Do remember that to access the Waldorf Philosophy forum and the study, you will need to have paid a Waldorf at Home subscription ($15/3 months or $50/year). If you have not already registered, that is the first step and you should then see how to make a subscription payment. If you've already registered but haven't paid your subscription, log in to the forum and go here: http://www.waldorf-at-home.com/forums/payments.php
Thanks!
